Is there any competition for INTC

1) following is a good site for getting basic data --
set up below for intel .. but good for any equity

dailystocks.net

2) the problem for intel (and in fact the single constant
through out the history of the computer industry) is the
continual decline in cost to produce a given cpu capability.

IBM stuck in mainframes with a corporate infrastructure that
tried but could not go to mini's

Digital stuck in mini's with a horrid attempt to go to micro's

Intel has (perhaps) such a problem now in that it's high end
is marginal with growth on the low end. Meaning they like
the red queen in alice's adventures must run faster and faster
to stay even. and here comes the competition, asian producers
are regearing (with lots of investment from some real giants
- e.g., ge capital). The basic component industry is moving
down to food chain toward becoming commodity suppliers

The same is true for networks and access suppliers. In the world of the future computation and bandwidth are free.

Companies such as AOL own only their name (their modem farms
and servers are readily - off the shelf - replaceable. And again,
as basic systems costs drop at less cost today than yesterday.

Finally, in the case of AOL, why does anyone go through AOL
as opposed to an ISP ... ease, free disk start-up in the mail,
ignorance, apathy.

oh well, who knew
