Actually the republicans are fairly divided on the situation. There are some that are so called "new world" thinkers, pro-interventionists (insane) and then there are the SANE thinkers that are pro-nationalists that believe that the west is strong because we take care of ourselves and don't fall into the traps that other super-powers have done in our history of intervening all over the place. I tend to think that if the world had the pro-nationalist model and we used NATO only for intervening when one nation attacks another we would eventually have a very peaceful world. And use economic/political sanctions against nations who's internal polies we don't agree with.
