There is a Growth Capital Partners, but it appears to be different than Growth Capital Corporation. Partners invests private money in oil and gas development and has made over $1 bil. in merger and acquisition deals. However, I find no direct link to GC Corporation, nor any information about them other than they're in Dallas. The tender offer is being orchestrated by Smith Barney's tender dept. It's a valid offer according to all I've talked to, but so far, I don't know anyone who has tendered shares. It wouldn't surprise me at all if the Three Amigos and their friends sold short vast amounts of the shares to the tender offer at $5.50 when TAVA was in the $4-5 range, then tried to buy up what they'd sold in the open market. That would account for the rapid rise in price above $5.50. It also sets up a reason for the Three Amigos to drive the price back down below $5.50.
On the good side, as far as I know, Growth Capital Corp. is in this for investment purposes, and anything that soaks up 1 million shares is a good beginning. TAVA management apparently did not know about the tender offer for the first few days last week, so it sounds like a fund that made a decision on its own to buy a stake (below 5%)and then chose Smith Barney to initiate it.
