Wind River Systems and Xionics
Announce Embedded Digital Imaging
Solutions for Tornado and VxWorks

ALAMEDA, Calif. & BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS
WIRE)-- April 13, 1999--

IPS/2000 Version 3 For Tornado Accelerates Development of

Leading Edge Peripherals Required for

Today's Internet Connected Office

Wind River Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:WIND - news) and Xionics Document Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:XION - news) today announced IPS/2000 Version 3 for Tornado(tm), a complete integrated imaging solution for printers and multifunction peripherals (MFPs). OEM customers can
now speed their time to market by leveraging the IPS/2000 imaging environment ported to the VxWorks(r) embedded operating system.

''With today's announcement, Xionics now supports the leading development tools and operating system platform for printing peripherals,'' said Pete Simone, president and CEO of Xionics
Document Technologies. ''This is another in a series of announcements about Xionics' leading-edge development solutions to provide imaging for the 'connected office' of today.''

IPS/2000 and VxWorks are already the market-leading solutions used by most OEMs developing hard-copy print devices, such as printers, MFPs, and digital copiers. Integrating IPS/2000 Version 3 on top of VxWorks 5.3 greatly simplifies an OEMs development effort by providing a complete robust and tested solution, while allowing the development team to leverage the Tornado development tools. Both factors lead to a quicker time to market for the OEM development team.

''By porting IPS/2000 to VxWorks, Xionics is providing an open architecture and support for a range of industry standards that will make it easier for their customers to design efficient systems and
quickly migrate designs across different microprocessor families,'' said Curt Schacker, vice president of marketing for Wind River Systems. ''OEMs eager to save development time and resources and
ensure the highest quality and performance in their devices will benefit from a solution that combines Tornado, VxWorks, and Xionics IPS/2000.''

About IPS/2000

IPS/2000 provides the encompassing imaging environment architecture and subsystems, such as print, copy, scan and fax as well as Internet and other communications protocols. The IPS/2000 system, which has been licensed to over 40 OEMs representing 80% of the printing peripheral market, enables OEMs to build families of peripheral products from one platform architecture. Xionics has leveraged its expertise to ensure IPS/2000 remains the leading architecture for the
peripherals industry by adding support for major technology platforms and interfaces. Recent enhancements include Xionics PS3(tm) (PostScript(r) 3 solution), font technology from Agfa-Gevaert and Bitstream, and network connectivity from NETsilicon's DPI Imaging division, formerly known as Digital Product Inc., among others.

About Tornado and VxWorks

The Tornado development environment and the VxWorks real-time operating system are the leading core platform for digital imaging devices. OEMs can utilize the reliable and scalable system
architecture of VxWorks, in combination with optional modules such as Wind Web Server(tm) and Personal JWorks(tm) to internet-enable printers and MFPs. Developers can harness the power of the Tornado development environment to design and reuse code across a variety of product lines. Teams can also leverage a variety of other development tools to speed product development time. For more information on Wind River products, please go to www.wrs.com.
