Lets also remove mortgage and property tax deductions for second, third and vacation homes and homes in excess of $150,000.

Why should the taxpayer subsidize other's extravagant living?

Initially, the government subsidized home ownership to promote home ownership, but then the contractors, supply houses, and trade unions grew fond of the situation and have paid for lobbyists to keep or expand the incentive to promote their interests.

They have done the same to maintain certain restrictions on building type, through zoning laws and building codes.

Presently, it is against the law to live in a tent on your own property in the State of Oregon.

I know this from personal experience.
