Brister, MMX is the MultiMedia eXtensions ie new instructions in the x86 architecture for multimedia. Will first appear in the P55C end of 1996. I don't know much about the instructions but I think they include instructions to do arithemtic on 8 separate bytes in parallel in one cycle. Apparently kicks butt in Adobe Photoshop.
