Float.. findings. In conducting research in Marketguide I've come to realize that float is often calculated by Shares outstanding less treasury holdings less shares held by 5% owners. Although other institutions hold, these are often not included in the float calculation. Thus, float may be 5.3M while outstanding may be 10.6M with "institutions" holding 85%. These minor (less than %5) institutions are not considered in the float, although one, such as Fidelity, may be a holder. If one considers these holders to be long term, the float would likely be less.

I've been trying to determine the "shares readiy available" or those shares that are available for retail. This is getting me closer.
