You didn't misunderstand; I contradicted myself. I could weasel out of it by saying that completely eliminating them is an unattainable ideal, while de-emphasizing them is a possible and positive step, but I won't. Except that I just did.

Any conclusions about my current state of mind will probably be accurate. Contradiction is my middle name.
