Raising human children is very difficult, demanding, expensive, and time-consuming. I think it's particularly so when you are trying to raise intelligent children who will have professional careers, say graduate school, post-graduate degrees, or lengthy apprenticeships or fellowships. There may be a time and a place for home schooling, but at some point you have to hand them over to others.
I know a very few home-schooled children whose parents were of above-average abilities, most people home-school their children to keep them from mingling with the "wrong sort." I can sympathise, really, we had a very nice couple on our street who homeschooled their five children because they didn't want them exposed to Satanism, that is, fables, fairy tales, and Halloween. I am sincere in saying they were very nice people, glad they moved away before Benjamin started playing Dungeons and Dragons, though. |
