We'll let the "laying" pass, since that has already been picked up on, and very cleverly at that.

But -- it's face?

May I refer you to the opening post, composed by -- ahem, ahem, once more -- yours truly?

This thread is devoted to detailing & discussing common irritating errors, with the hope of eradicating them once and for all.

Let's start with "it's" for "its." Folks -- "it's" is a contraction for "it is." "Its" is a possessive pronoun. EXAMPLE: "It's nice that the stock has hit its all-time high."


Or: "It's nice that the chicken has laid its egg."

If it makes you feel any better, I made a boo-boo myself in that opening post (as duly noted in post #1). "Its" is a possessive adjective, not a possessive pronoun.
