why dawlin there are certain standard English words which are pronounced in very special ways in New Orleans. they don't have a 'true' southern accent. it is an odd mixture from a combination of french, cajun and spanish influence, with of course the lazy tongue. i've long ago lost my accent, i think!! a lagniappe for you: suck the head, squeeze the tip - the technique for eating crawdads
