| Thread: I want to post about a couple of other stocks that I've been buying recently. These stocks are not the only new buys I've made, but I do think they may be of the type that might be of interest to SNDK or INTC buyers. Of course, I do not know you, the readers. My assumption is that we all invest differently from different perspectives and knowledge bases. Therefore, given the way I invest, you will not be able to pin me down to details about the companies I am posting on. It is best if you just assume that I do not know what I am talking about (I'm married so I'm used to it -g-; more importantly---I have been wrong many, many times before); just work your own way into the companies if you are interested.
LPGLY: This is an alleged value stock. They are an off-shore insurance firm selling tax deferred annuities. Ugh! But... they have invested 100M of their capital into about 15 Silicon Valley startups. (Go to the SI thread; confirm, get more details). The stock is up an enormous % amount (IMO) in the last two days. I've added some to my position today. It could be, maybe be, possibly should be - a runner like you speed junkies here have seen with SNDK and IDTC. Who knows? The company now marks to the market (I think) which means that the book value of the company fluctuates with the value of its holdings (I think). If this is so, and if what posters on the LPGLY thread are saying, the stock is still selling close enough to its book value to still warrant some investigation by people who want some substance to their internet plays. Anyway, I'd be interested in what you guys might think about this one.

I've also taken a small position in GBT. It's a very small telecom. company in fiber commo. --A co. that also has some other stuff buried within it. (Looks like it will be big in Mexico, deals with QWST, etc). Stock's about 4 3/8 with plenty of debt ($2/sh cash though, per Yahoo). Also a Vancouver company (automatically smacks of shady to me -- sorry). Maybe they might be able to actually be able to bask in some of the glory that SOME other fiber co. are seeing. I need to do much more research on this one, but for now, I own a small amount. Any opinions, suggestions relating thereto are welcome.

 Ah well, FWIW. Paul Senior
