Hi all; EE-Times articles on DRAM and Displays:

Good article on the differences between current models of DRAM: Remember that for large memory systems, the bandwidth of the individual chips is not terribly important.

Just how fast are the new memories?
We estimate that RDRAM may cost 40 percent more than a PC-100 SDRAM module form by the second quarter of 2000.

If any of those rambus folks out there still doubt my contention that Rambus is designed for low end computers, here is an announcement from Toshiba that their DDR SDRAMs are targetted at the high end:

Toshiba launches 128-Mbit double-data-rate SDRAMs
The company is targeting the new memory devices at high-performance servers and workstations that require greater bandwidth.

I repeat that CRT monitors are beginning to become obsolescent. Okay, it isn't going to be by Christmas, but it certainly is going to happen well within the time limits of any sort of reasonable net present value calculation for the companies involved. Here Sharp is sending LCDs after the TV market:

Sharp Seeks Shelter From LCD Storm
Sharp Electronics Corp. took the wraps off a new LCD architecture this week with an eye toward broadening display usage in portable equipment and television sets.

Plasma ain't doing so hot:

Joint venture looks to jolt plasma displays' progress
Despite high hopes for plasma models as the next-generation flat-panel display, the market has not grown as fast as manufacturers expected.
