ON TOPIC::: A Real People Quote...under careful who you drink with department.
During WW Two ( the big one ) a group of us Army Cooks would go
out drinking to relieve a thirst brought on by a hard day's cooking over coal stove in a 140 degree kitchen. One of our associates, Tex DuBois ( no relation to Blanche ) would invariably raise his drink in a toast::
" Here's to the sweetest days in my life
the days I spent in the arms of another man's wife,
MY MOTHER !!! "
Tex would then go into a fit of uncontrolable sobbing which would last anywhere from an hour to two hours. This cause-effect never stopped. The only thing that was not predictable was whether this behavior would happen after the tenth, thirteeth or sixteeth drink. To make the situation bearable, we would set up a pool on what drink would set him off. Eventually, I noticed that his left eye would quiver before the toast was made and this became a source of income for me ( at least enough to pay for my drinks ) such are the things one learns in the ARMY...I think that the expression " crying in your beer" was already in existance.........nysebob2
