Ramsey - OT OT - Do you think it is "fair" that US companies should be allowed to own foreign companies just because US allows foreign ownership of US companies? Think it through carefully and the answer will not be as obvious as it first appears.

Is your argument is that by not allowing US companies to own Chinese companies, that they are just hurting themselves, and thus they should be allowed to do it? If so I agree that there is some truth to it (you need only look at Rockefeller Square to see the Japanese being killed.), but it is, after all, a *World* Trade Organization that China is asking to join. It seems only reasonable that members should meet certain openness requirements for the benefit of the world assuming you believe that free trade benefits everyone. It incentivises countries to do what they otherwise would not and thereby benefits everyone and this is no different from many things in society. Pay your union dues or you can't get in. Of course it can be taken too far or applied unfairly, but you haven't provided evidence of that.

Just my thoughts, curious as to yours.
