Paul: You are different from Herb in the sense that your journalistic past has involved reporting in an ethical manner. Herb is "Hard Copy" and the World Wrestling Federation rolled into one. As a writer, you know that the dread of the business comes from lack of feedback. "Am I contributing to the circulation of this periodical?" If not, I'm history. But when that feedback comes in droves, it tells management that you're moving product with your words. Make no mistake about it, that Herb is well sanctioned in this never ending battle by the editors over at SF Chronicle. The more pissed off he gets CUBErs, the more the response, the more the anticipation for the next column. They would have politely muzzled him by now, if they thought ill of his tactics. And what a master stroke that only PT Barnum or Don King could be proud of, when he suggests a "match" between Cohodes and some other dupe from the long side. The best course of approach short of actually catching Herb in something illegal, is to simply ignore him. No emails. Feedback is the nourishment of the muckraker. The stock price will ultimately take care of him, Cohodes and their argument.
