Doug-
Niles has made some good calls in the last year, although he has also had his gawffs (sp?)...Micron..
I found the Intel piece too negative...he didnt mention (at all) the fact that revenues are usually sequentially down (for Intel) from Q4-Q1 each year, this year, in fact, they were down less than in the previous year....and PIII was launched at a lower price point (than PII launch, same quarter, last year)...
His "sell it" was a bit bold too..
He also did not recognize that Intel always says revenues will be flat-to-slightly down for Q2..that was nothing unusual...but he shaded it as it was...
Cell phone argument...maybe in the consumer sector at some point...the transition is sure to be somewhat gradual.........but in the corporate market....I wouldn't think anytime soon..but one day....
I think Niles made some good points, but it was not balanced, and therefore not fair.
Kindof like Herr Pfeiffer trying to "overstate" the weakness in overall PC demand to cover his butt, and pass the buck (as much as he can) for Compaq's problems on overall market weakness (and not bad management)...I'm sure he enjoys stickin' it to the other makers..problem is, this sort of stuff has hurt his credibility...and, IMO, that is far more valuable... |
