Lucky Linda, Interesting observation about the presence of Sony execs at Roy, Utah... Why would they possibly be there? It would seem to me that an alliance between Sony and Iomega would make sense right now. The Mavica series of digital cameras are a hot item, but they rely on old floppy technology for storage. Sony had probably planned to have their Hi-FUD drive in a new Mavica by now but they have had continuing design problems with the dual head drive and are now far behind the curve in its development. If you were Sony, might you be looking at Iomega's Clik! technology? Melding the Mavica with the Clik! seems to me to be an excellent fit. Remember it was not that long ago that Sony was selling their branded Zip disks and were including them in their own Vaio PCs. All this changed when they were about to bring the Hi-FUD drive to market and they soon dropped both. Sony is now under pressure to come up with a new money maker. The smaller form factor of the Clik! might be just what is needed to design a small, light, easier to hold Mavica digital camera. And instead of just being able to store 1.44 MB per disk, it would be able to store 40 MBytes of higher resolution photographs on Clik! media.

Another possible Sony interest might be a "Walkman" type device that would allow downloading "MP3" type music files from the Internet. This would also have the potential to become a big seller for Sony and if Clik! drives and media were used then it would also be good for Iomega. I can see several reasons for Sony to want to talk to the folks at Roy... But who knows, maybe they were just stopping by to ask directions on how to get to Orem, Utah?

Maybe we will hear something about this tomorrow. Best regards, Mel
