Bob, It looks like GNET stands to be one of the winners when the "Free PC" shakeout is over. Good article in Industry Standard about the different ways FREE or DISCOUNTED PC's are being marketed. I only have the hard copy so I can't direct you to the URL but its an interesting read.

For example DirectWeb gives you the PC but you have to pay $19.99 to $49.99 for ISP access.

One Stop gives you a free iMac as long as you spend $100 a month for three years through their site. Lets see 1K PC for 3.6K spending.
