Darlene: Here is the story. Yes WSJ is slowwww....... SUNW has them all sharing ideas with this Java initiative. I can not recall a similar allout combined initiative against a single company (MSFT).

Lucent, Sun Micro Develop Java Telephony Software

MURRAY HILL, N.J. (Dow Jones)--Lucent Technologies Inc. (LU) will offer new Java telephony software in the second quarter that adds Internet access to the networks that its PassageWay Telephony Services product already supports.

Lucent and Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW) jointly authored the Java telephony specification, Lucent said.

In a press release Wednesday, the company said PassageWay Telephony Services uses the telephony services application programmer interface to integrate telephony with computer networks.

According to Lucent, PassageWay Telephony Services already integrates telephony with corporate networks of Novell Inc. (NOVL) and Microsoft Corp. (MSFT).

Lucent said the new software, Java telephony API, uses Java and the Internet to link various computers with voice networks.
