My humble apologies if I am asking previously answered questions, but I need to make a move rather quickly.

I have a 401(k) from a previous employer that isn't huge ($30k or so) that I need to roll into something. Does it make sense to roll it into a Roth and pay a penalty, or go straight into a regular IRA. Are there any unusual complications here?

Finally, I want to actively trade equities with my IRA/RIRA rollover, any recommendations on who's got the best (R)IRA offering online trading at discount rates.

Many thanks!! -kilowatt
