I think a decent browser/GUI that ran directly on the framebuffer and had a built-in Java Virtual Machine would be a real hit. But this would be very similar to the JavaOS that has completely flopped from a marketshare standpoint, so I could be all wet.

Java is almost up to speed. MSFT's grip on the desktop is tenuous as they're under the antitrust spotlight. The more I read about XML, the more references I read to XML and Java (combo). This may be *exactly the direction things are going. It's not the same game it was 2 years ago.
