In the last several quarterly conference calls, mgmt has mentioned
that they would change how customer services costs are accounted for
in the income statement, starting in 99. It
has to do with customer services revenues and expenses. Previously,
customer services revenues were recorded on the top line (of course),
but the costs associated with those revenues were recorded in the
SG&A line, instead of up top. Starting last fall, mgmt mentioned that
they would start including cust. serv. costs in the "cost of goods
sold" line starting with 1Q99. This has the effect of lowering gross
margin, but has absolutely no effect on after tax profits. If you
listen to this conference call, I'm sure they will mention it again.
