Ok guys,
For full disclosure here, I spoke with a friend who has a certain expertise in this area. Here's what he had to say-both positive and negative. I do not have my notes handy but hopefully I can recall the greater portion of it.

1. The drug works. He's used it himself and for his family.
2. Given the psychosomatic nature of herpes-often stress/emotion induced, etc. Its very difficult to prove efficacy because of this.
Also very prone to the placebo effect.
3. Along #2 lines-As you all know the need to design a better trial because of this. They really screwed up the first one up.
4. Bad reputation in part stems from a PR guy they had hired way back when - a california guy that was overkill-touting a $100 future price etc. The height of his campaign came right before the stock tumbled-looked very bad because of the senseless nature of the PR.
5. Some Dorfman reports hurt.
6. They really don't need to show too much to get FDA approval-just show a minimal statistical significance and it should breeze in.
This is because of the benign nature of the drug-its not as if its going to harm anyone.
7. Good partners.

Now I can't vouch for anything here. Its mainly straight from this fellow-he's very smart and I have no reason to doubt his veracity or intentions-maybe he's wrong here and there but not intentionally.
So take it all with a grain of salt.
