Sam. When the stock is bought ( like yesterday ), the stock is sold following those buys when there is no other action. The MM does this ( prints trades at the bid ) to offset the previuos buys which he never fullfilled in ernest. this is the way to balance the books. the good side is if the stock ever appreciates through buy demand, then that same maker who became "naturally short " will have to accumulate shares to make available to the original ownwer, ofcourse if that original owner didnt nerve out and sell before hand. Poker anyone....... My opinion only.
