Actually, without knowing what the web was capable of a few years back, I thought, right, I can show videos all day, or bands jamming in the studio, or play music all day long. The idea would be to target (narrowcast?) to a certain specific segment (people who like traditional ROCKABILLY and FOLK ), do interviews, reviews- in other words, develop an alternative community that appeals to a very specific target audience. Finally, this last year, I started developing my website, and I'm still developing content, with an "attitude" for that audience I want. But, it's a ways off from being able to run video and music, but probably not too far off. It does seem inevitable that in the future an indie artist will be able to take charge of his or her own career, and stop having to play the usual record politics (which I was horrible at anyway.) There is a tremendous amount of potential for every strain and type of artist coming, whether it's for a mass audience, or for a small cottage audience that likes bongo music.
My dream as a teenager was never to have to leave my house. Just sit in a chair in my bathrobe, push a button, and run my empire. Those days are getting closer. These days I push buttons, and make money in the stock market, investing in technologys that I can't even begin to understand. It's really dumb, but it's fun, if only because it's so easy.....It does waste a lot of creative time, however. But, heck, the money's got to come from somewhere.
