Well they might try if we had a more public profile but SUN is pretty smug about their machine centric position. Why would would pay big money for a SPARC processor that performs about as good as a 260 MHZ Pentium? They can buy a DEC alpha or a 450 MHZ Pentium II and run Linux for 1/5 the cost, plus outperform the SPARC by 300%.

By independent tests, a SPARC 20 running Solaris performs not quite as well as a 90 MHZ Pentium running BSDI. With 2 processors, an ASUS board running Linux at 450 MHZ (Pentium II) is the most computer for the money that humankind has ever been able to buy. That is why I am not particularly concerned about SUN's software and hardware. SUN is a dinosaur headed for LeBrea. Linux is an Archeopteryx with a wind under its wings that is blowing to the future.
