<<About "WWII being necessary to stop Hitler," that's not what happened at all. The
US/UK were rather sympathetic to Hitler (and absolutely adored Mussolini). That went
on to the late '30s, with varying defections in the latter stages (much the same was true
of Japanese fascism). When Hitler invaded Poland, Britain and France went to war --
called "a phony war," because they didn't do much. When Hitler attacked them, it
became a real war. When Germany declared war on the US, after Japan had attacked
mainly US military facilities in US colonies that had been conquered (in one case, with
extraordinary violence) half a century before, the US went to war. No one went to war
"to stop Hitler.">>

Speaking of historical revisionism...

Let's see how sympathetic the British were to fascism: condemned Japanese aggression in China, Churchill openly warned of German and Italian aggression, hundreds of British men went to fight fascism in the Spanish Civil War. The "phony war" was a result primarily 1.) of the fact that Britain had continued a policy of disarmament after WWI at breakneck speed, irregardless of warnings of fascist aggression, 2.) the French had prepared the Maginot (sp) line in preparation of a future German offensive and were sitting smug behind their pill boxes expecting a WWI like offensive.

Now lets get to the Americans. We didn't go to war to stop Hitler you say? That certainly goes against every account of those closest to Roosevelt. Not only did we supply Britain with the lend-lease act and do our best to hamstring German sub activity in the Atlantic behind our cover of neutrality, but Roosevelt actively pursued a policy of aggravating the Japanese in the hopes of entering the war against Hitler "through the back door to war" - Japan. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor came as a result of America cutting off steel and oil supplies to Japan and tightening the economic noose. The attack came in coordination with a Japanese state mission to try and alleviate trade differences with the US, when it became apparent that the US was adamant, the Japanese carried through with their plans and bombed our naval base in Pearl Harbor. This rallied the American people to war against Japan, and achieved Roosevelt's goal: war with Germany. This is historical fact. To say that the US especially didnt go to war to stop Hitler is simply wrong.
