The "hot swappable" feature are
determined by the controller. If the controller is designed to work in a "hot-swappable" environments, the DataPort will support it since the
DataPort acts as a transparent device. -from a Dataport FAQ


hmmm... well, I only have the standard IDE contoller that is on my mobo. I really no nothing about it other than where the connections are. I guess if the definition of true hot-swapping is to be able to change non identical drives then I have not tried that and don't need that currently. I had been using a more simplistic definition..

Sorry to add to the confusion, but at least we're all learning something.

BTW I agree also about the whispering IBM s...
