Tends to defuse notions of religious authority... Really? I would have said it tends to infuse them with even more religious authority. That is to say, tends to strengthen them as expressions of the "collective [religious] unconsciousness", if there is/was such a thing... (hmmmmm...what am I doing here?...must have made a wrong turn on the way to the Canoeing and Hiking thread... where IS that trail of breadcrumbs.....) Dang, the same thing happened to me!
