By the way... Ditto on the freeze for elective server (hardware and software) and non-necessary hardware upgrades as well as desktop upgrades to hardware and software. All new stuff must be recertified for y2k. So everything that changes in now a two step processs. A very large disincentive. My desktop already has three different stickers on it testifying to varous aspects of y2k compliance. If I was to get a new one, those three audits would have to be performed again. I think this is a bit excessive, but that is what is going on. The DOE is nuts about this stuff. I wonder if other organizations are being that anal. The point is, we could see a slowdown in other areas in the tech sector because of y2k (but of course we have already seen evidence of this). It the old, it probably wouldn't have been a problem but because everybody is covering their a***es, it is becoming a problem.
