Status as of 9/15/1999:

The auditors have received everything they asked for. There was a one day delay in their getting the information that was related to a downtime of our corporate server. Some of you may have noticed the several hour outage if you tried to access our corporate website. It was down for most of a day. Investigation into what caused the outage continues.

In addition to that, a virus creeped into our email system and caused general havoc and delayed communications. While that didn't affect the audit timing, it sure as heck ruined my day and caused some needless rework for the staff who were affected. Several intra-company emails got "stuck" or lost. It took the better part of a day to recover damaged files and rebuild/resend the lost emails.

The auditors are still finishing up their report. I got antsy and called in to them myself to see what was taking so darned long. I discovered that their definition of "done", and what one of our people interpreted what they meant when they said "done" were two entirely different things. They are "done" collecting data. They were "done" last Friday, except for the one question we had to answer on Monday ... which got delayed because of the server problem until Tuesday. The auditors are now producing a draft report which will be reviewed internally, and then a final version will be created. It is that version we will post to our website. Sorry for the confusion, folks. Nobody is unhappier about it than I am. You can bet that particular miscommunication won't happen again.

I am tracking several activities. Good progress is being made in several of them. I will post status when there is something definite to report.

A Safe Harbor statement follows my signoff.
