It's my worst nightmare - this thread is starting to look like Qcom version. Samsung is planning to use their own chipsets in all their future handsets - just like Sony is. I'm not talking about phones currently in shops, I'm talking about their plans for late 1999 and 2000. Qualcomm is not a leading brand - they may be number two in CDMA phone sales now, but when brand awareness is measured they are miles behind Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and Sony. You don't seriously think Qualcomm will be even in the top three after this year is over? Motorola is the one that has landed the big foreign CDMA phone orders in Brazil and Korea. How is that possible after the three-year delay they had before entering CDMA handset market?

Yes, I know that Nokia, Ericsson and Motorola are all supposedly "negotiating" with Qualcomm. I also know that people at Qualcomm thread specifically claimed that Nokia and Motorola would be forced to use Qualcomm chipsets in 6185 and Startac models. Well - did it happen? These companies all going ahead with plans to use chipsets from Qualcomm's competitors. Do you really think that they want to subsidize Qualcomm's phone business when they can order chips from companies that are not direct competitiors?
