Iomega vs. Syquest:

I think that those of us who are long Iomega should not ignore the threat--or the PERCEPTION of a threat--posed by Syquest's new SyJet, which has been receiving some positive reviews lately. Even if SYQT eventually goes belly-up, in the short term Jaz and SyJet are going to be fighting for the same market. Investors already believe that Syquest is at death's door, so any movement in SyJet's sales could send SYQT up dramatically.

So let's play an investment game: Let's say that we invest $1000 in IOM and $1000 in SYQT at Feb 26th's closing prices (IOM=16.25, SYQT=2.25). That will buy us 61.54 shares of IOM and 444.44 shares of SYQT. I'll check back periodically over the next month and let you know what these hypothetical investments are worth.

My contention is that betting on--ahem, investing in--both stocks will be more profitable and safer than simply holding IOM. Let's find out.
