Thread, quoting myself to re-establish the thinking:
I don't think EMC even sells tape drives; I found no mention of them on their web site. I'll check with a friend who has a friend at EMC.
Friend says EMC makes, sells no tape drives. STK said their weak quarter was due to weak tape drive sales. Ergo, there is no connection between STK and EMC with regard to what STK blamed for their bad quarter.
Friend also says IBM's contract with STK where STK sells enterprise storage boxes to IBM for IBM resale, is expiring soon and there are rumors that EMC may get the renewal. What's making it more than just speculation is that EMC recently signed up to use IBM high density, high RPM hard drives, dropping Seagate. One hand washes the other, or at least should.

Editing, enterprise storage boxes I mention are the same as what Stockbull called RAID boxes, code name Iceberg in his thread. If EMC does take this business away from STK, the IBM connection would get the bucks back into EMC stock. So, still, wht the downgrade from buy to hold by NMS? Valuation only? |
