Gregg - ERICY and QC will support ONE standard, i.e. CDMA. with several modes. I'd be very surprised if Ericsson didn't try to maximize their lead in the 'W-CDMA' mode and lock Qualcomm out to the maximum extent possible. Given their abilities in this area I would expect them to be somewhat successful unless perhaps the operators can force convergence of the mode. But in any case I'd hardly say that W-CDMA is dead if it still a tool that can be used to cut down Qualcomm's lead in CDMA. ??? Compatibility with multiple modes will require substantially more sophisticated ASICs and will increase barriers to competition for this key Qualcomm business unit. If this is true (that all equipment shipped will have to be compatible with all three modes) then my first comment is less of an issue (although not completely a non-issue). Do you know this to be fact? Clark PS As I've said before (after the royalty rates became known), the Ericsson/Qualcomm deal is about the magnitude that I expected just of a different form than I expected (I expected convergence but lower royalties and we got incomplete convergence but high royalties). So I'm not complaining about lack of convergence, just saying that I think it is an overstatement to say that we got full convergence.
