That's why I've been watching the COSFF threads...

I think Corel is undervalued (currently selling around $6).

Once Netscape Constellation is out, I feel there will be a viable Java environ for applications. However, there are currently no real JAVA apps to go to market.

Enter Corel with their Office suite to be developed in Java. Program once and port to many platforms!

Now, back to RISC... If Java applications start to flourish, this could allow that chip to flourish! I agree with you RISC is superior, but there are very few applications for it (in relation to Win/Intel software - still thousands of RISC apps, but the software market is stil Windows dominant.)

Constellation on RISC powered IBM Aptivas, Macs, and Acers. You can even add viability to one of those sporty new Cyrix-based Compaq Presarios! (By the way, It appears that MSFT has been aiding Cyrix in smoothing out compatibility with Compaq's new PC line. - Is this a sign that Microsoft's strong relationship with Intel may be a little less close? What better way to increase software sales than to phase out your currently saturated user base and opt for a new chip which people would have to buy new software for!)

But, I warn... it all hangs in the balance of many factors.

1. Success of Sun Microsystems Java.
2. Successful release of Netscape Constellation.
3. Successful lead of Java app development by Corel - with hopes that the rest of the software industry follows suit.
4. Opening of the public's eye's that they don't have to be anchored to one chip technology.

That's how I see it. Is this a warped or jaded view of the industry? Am I too anti-Intel?
I think there is room for all. Intel chips will still be popular and in use. I just don't see MMX being a big part of the picture.

Again, I put out a call to those out there in the know. Are there any real advantages to MMX?

-Bill
