(Taking advice from the 'sarrogate son')

The reason Dell, the man, is so hot is simple, Intel Chairman Andy Grove says. "He has done what a lot of people are aspiring to do."
.............

"He's one of the most-respected CEOs in the country, and he's come from nowhere," says headhunter Jerry Roche, who has recruited such CEOs as Harvey Golub for American Express and Louis Gerstner for IBM. "He's on the cutting edge of CEO-ship."
.............

Dell is not as famous as Microsoft's Bill Gates, but when it comes to CEO demand for expertise, Dell has pulled into a class of his own among young executives.
..................

Gates is too "nerdy" for older CEOs, Winkleman says. "Dell is much more accessible, better looking," Winkleman says. "For older guys, he's a surrogate son. For younger guys, he's who they want to be."
.............

Executives who attend Dell's sessions describe him as down-to-earth. They also say he's usually the youngest in the room.

Is Dell flattered to leap into the elite ranks of CEOs that chief executives turn to? "I haven't given it a whole lot of thought," he says. Reported by USA Today,

But when Executive Focus International issued invitations for keynote speakers for its February meetings in Orlando, it chose Welch and Dell. Dell is a finalist for chief executive of the year, to be announced April 25.

Mohan: If I were them I would chose both Mr.Welch and Dell.
