Cents, once the real bear market comes, it will be the mother of all bear markets, as the virtuous circle will turn into a vicious circle just in the way you describe. there will be no more 'long term' investors once the short term gains are gone. the buy-and-hold strategy touted by all the ws firms works only in an extended bull market such as we have had for the past 18 years. it doesn't work in 'normal' times and it most definitely doesn't work when an extended bull market ends. the prices of 1929 were seen again in 1954. anybody who says it can't happen again need only take a look at what was said at bull market peaks in the past. history repeats. there is no 'new era'. regards, hb
