It just occurred to me that if Direct TV is offering satellite internet downloads at much faster than 56 K, then why can't IRID offer the same thing? With Direct TV you must still contact your ISP with a phone line; only the incoming data is from the satellite. Obviously with a satellite phone, you could accomlish internet uplinks and downlinks to the satellite.
It seems that the first company up there, with the most satellites, and the closest satellites has quite a franchise for any future technology that comes along.
Call me a visionary!
