SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 1999--Inktomi Corp. (NASDAQ:INKT - news) today announced financial results for the second quarter of fiscal year 1999 ended March 31, 1999. Revenues for the quarter were $14.6 million, a 323 percent increase over revenues of $3.5 million for the comparable quarter in the prior year, and a 36 percent sequential increase over the previous quarter. Net loss for the quarter was $4.6 million or a loss of $0.9 cents per share compared to a net loss of $4.8 million or a loss of $0.13 cents a share for the year earlier period.
''We executed on all fronts solidifying our leadership position as the Internet infrastructure company,'' said David Peterschmidt, president and chief executive officer of Inktomi. ''The quarter was marked by strong revenue growth, major customer wins worldwide, a strategic European alliance for our search business and continued momentum for our new Shopping Engine. During the quarter, we also demonstrated the mission-critical capabilities of the Traffic Server cache product which now handles billions of requests daily for America Online's web traffic.''
