Usually we ship everything off to Skip, my CPA brother, but this year Dan decided a few days ago when we noticed the date, that he would do it rather than impose. It's been a hard year for them, losing their son last fall, and he doesn't need our tax returns on top of his usual load--especially three days before. I keep fairly good records, but by 11 last night, Dan was in a terrible mood. He finally said "Give me the checkbook," and wrote a big check to the IRS and filed for an extension. He said he just wasn't sure on which lines everything went, and he was worried that if he rushed and screwed up, he'd end up audited. This is the president of a big company; he has a law degree and he was baffled by the forms??? I watch him and listen to Coby and all you smart people and wonder how do normal little people ever figure it out? Something is terribly wrong. Also CW had to do his and he OWES 1300!!!!! He's 18 for God's sake! And he has saved every cent for college. I felt so bad for him. And also angry, because I could see he already feels betrayed and robbed- with those "what good does it do to work so hard then, if they just take it all" feelings. |
