Kash, I believe that Intel's costs are even lower than your estimates. I have hearesay evidence from people who want to be anonymous that Celeron cost should be below $30, and the PIII cost should be below $55.This includes all manufacturing costs labor and depreciation. Obviously R&D costs and sales and administrative costs are excluded.

Obviously Celeron more than pays for itself. The costs are dropping every month, and Intel is well positioned to undercut the sales price further if market conditions require it. Intel is clearly the lowest cost manufacturer and is well positioned to defend its market share. Its competitors are bleeding profusely and will need massive infusions of money to carry on the battle. AMD needs a new business model to survive. The "25% less cost that Intel" strategy is disastrous if Intel's cost of manufacture is significantly lower than AMD. The K-7 will not be the salvation either.
