as for tv, it almost certainly won't be shown live (who the hell would watch on a monday afternoon), so maybe a major network would buy it for a saturday or sunday filler. they must have stellar players for it to happen with a major, though. our field is less than stellar but better than average. (there's nobody who's HOT with a lot of crowd appeal). Lehman is boring, Hoch is an ***hole, Mize is.... (exactly), Janzen plays the nice quiet guy, Daly is easily the biggest draw of the field, and nobody outside of golf knows who Michael Bradley is.
Point: for a major network (abc, cbs, nbc, fox, and even espn) to be interested, major star players need to be involved. the normans, tigers, duvals, o'meara's, and els of the world. but they aren't playing for $150,000. that's chump change to them.
the ONLY hope to get those guys is that MAYBE they view it as a tune-up for the Ryder Cup. Since they are playing team format, hopefully some of the bigger names will indeed view it as such and sign on. That would be a huge boost for a potential sponsorship. |
