SpeedChoice is still a "1 1/2-way" service (meaning it's a wireline upstream). They've been promising full 2-way for months, but it hasn't happened yet. I was getting so tired of outages with my @HOME service that I was hoping they'd get the 2-way up so I'd have an alternative. @HOME's "content" pages have zero value to me (still--it hasn't improved much), so "losing" that is no loss.

I just called SpeedChoice again and they still have no estimate for completion of full 2-way.

One downside is you apparently MUST buy the modem. Don't know if they plan to buy back the old modems when 2-way is available or not.

The other downside is the antenna, which for me would have to be roof mounted and higher than the roofline. Homeowner's associations frown upon these, but they legally can't do anything because of legislation in place, as I understand it. The antenna is roughly the size of a street lamp, and roughly at the same height, but people have a funny way of accepting what's already there (the street lamp), but revolting against any NEW infringement of the airspace.
