MTBE ought to be considered a huge problem. It has been apparent in the California water community for several years that ALL gas station tanks had to be considered to be leaking. Much of the ground water in California has been polluted with MBTE. It's amazing that it has taken this long to recognize the problem. The wells in Santa Monica are shut down. Lake Tahoe will no longer allow outboard motors. Etc, etc.

The amazing thing is that ethanol completely substitutes for it. The only problem has been gasket damage in older engines. Current engines have gaskets that will survive.

I would think that a rational approach would be to invest in ETOH producers: ADM is the largest. HIPC is the purest play.

Enjoy.
