I believe much of what was in that article was sensible. Much of it, I agree with. However, much of it I have to take with a grain of salt, especially since the writer is Indian. Bias? Ever heard of Pakistan? Note India was one of the first countries to condemn US bombing, and they have two reasons for doing so. First, a national hatred of Muslims. Second, a vested interest in opposing any trend in successionist movements such as the KLA. Ever heard of Kashmir? Nothing should be taken at face value.

What I do agree with, and have openly said I agree with:
One-sided portrayal of events. I have said time and again that I oppose any independence of Kosovo and specifically opose any legitimatization of the KLA. I have repeatedly said that we should have gotten involved not just now, but also in Bosnia, and sooner. I have repeatedly said that there is no good guy in the Balkans. However, just because all are guilty (politically, not individually, must I add) does not mean we should not act to stop obvious butchery which not only is inhuman, but also threatens the security of the Mediteranean.

Second, I have said in the past that I agree that NATO blew it by being inflexible at the negotiating table in regards NATO peacekeepers and in legitimatizing the KLA. I also agree that it is nonsense that any talk of an independent Kosovo should be entertained for practical reasons.

I have never denied that both Croat and Serb committed atrocities in Bosnia. The facts are undeniable that this was so. What I have said is that we should not be condemned for finally, if late, acting to stop such behavior. Hypocritical? No, better late than never.

I have never denied that NATO actions have undermined the credibility of the UN. I should have. The UN has long ago discredited itself with its political deadlock, its bureacratic inefficiency, and its outrageous tendency to drag its feet when action is of the utmost urgency. The UN has killed itself, NATO's just putting the last nail in the coffin, hopefully. If the UN suddenly becomes a credible, effective, and responsive world body, I'll be there to applaud it. Till then, good riddence.
