Have to chime in on this one myself...been a customer at AB for about 5 weeks. And have to agree with the comments tonite about the rudeness factor. First was "opening the account scenario" where the lady in charge of transfers ... just talking to her, I felt like I was imposing by transferring my account there. Any questions were answered by "Let me get your number and I will call you back when I find an answer"... and no call backs... this happened 3 times.

When calling for a trade for the first time Wednesday (usually I use touchtone) I was routed to some guy who once again, basically made me feel like I was imposing on him to make a trade. I dont expect a 2 minute conversation but at least an opening greeting such as "hello", and a pleasant voice manner would help.

Don't they have those customer service seminars in NYC too... on how to pretend to be halfway pleasant to your customers.

On the positive side... comparing the last 4 discount brokers... this and only one other can you get to a customer service person in under 3 minutes on a typical 9:45 AM trade. But once you get there with AB Watley you have to cringe and hope you get someone who "has the time to speak to you".

(side note: there have been times when I have gotten a "nice person", for example when I had questions about how to do a wire transfer... so its not all rude people... just too many)

P.S. I understand the occasional computer/automated phone glitches from time to time with these discount brokers.... you get what you pay for, but the people are the one thing you can control and train to be pleasant. The last brokerage I left because I couldnt get reliable touchtone trading btw 9:30-10 AM, but any problems/concerns were met with a pleasant, helpful person. Maybe because they (the former brokerage) were based in the Midwest they just are nicer people... who knows. I just hate arrogance on the phone.
