This should make things interesting for Newbridge. Does Newbridge currently have equipment installed in Telecom Italia? If not we could expect to see some soon :-)))) $$$$$$ a nice reason for a run up in share price???
Not a chance. The hostile take-over has been in the news for well over a month, maybe two. If DT's joined the fray, the story's more interesting, but to get from DT to Telecom Italia to NN would require a major road map for most investors.
Now, a few comments from today's PMCS conference call:
* 10% sequential and 69% y/y growth in networking
* Head count at 485, up 50 from end of '98
* Networking sector "robust"
* Book to bill "solidly over one"
* Product acceptance accelerating with 350 design wins for Q1; by comparison, all of '98 had 950.
* Several trends: "ATM services becoming ubiquitous" --- IP/SONET, IP/ATM, GigE, Fiber over LAN, DSL --- all creating ripe climate for growth.
* Next quarter will announce new products, the most in the industry and double all of '98, also double complexity. All have companies waiting for release.
* When asked how long broadband infrastructure would see "high growth," the CEO said TDM had been around 20 years and was just now being eclipsed by broadband. "We're in early stages. . . companies are buying broadband equipment at robust pace."
* Asked about ATM %, the CEO said "The demise of ATM is greatly exaggerated." He then joked and said everyone should pass the word ATM's dying --- just to throw off competition.
That's it for now ---
