HML04 has a point......

I've been in the "software business" for 14 years in various capacities. I started out as a programmer with a large corporation just out of college. I have managed software development contracts. I currently market software automation products. Here's my opinion.

The claims that Zitel/MD are making just don't ring true.

1. There are as many programming styles as there are programmers. I can't fathom the use of a code "factory". As a former contract manager I doubt I would risk my professional reputation or my company's money on a "silver bullet" software fix.

2. The Y2K market is being grossly overstated. Most of my colleagues in the private sector have already addressed the "problem". Those that haven't are already in process using in-house resources.

3. Y2K problems aren't that big a deal. We're talking about converting a 2 digit field to a 4 digit field and then modifying the associated sub-routines or linked routines. This is not a difficult programming task.

While you may disagree with HML04's style, I would hesitate to call him a hypester because what he is saying concurs with my own professional experience. Zitel's public statements seem to come from their marketing department. They seem unwilling to discuss the technological underpinnings of the code "factory". Contract managers DO look for a performance history when spending large amounts of money.

Just an opinion from a long term ZITL short (for the record, 300 shares)
